The Hounding

Did Keith Olbermann go too far last night with his Special Comment on Hillary Clinton’s gaffe about Democratic primaries in June -- or for those convinced otherwise, her implied/veiled/overt assassination threat of Barack Obama? I think so, but given my track record this can mean only one two three things for Olbermann: a Polk, a Peabody, and a special Pulitzer.

Olbermann aside, it’s important to mark the date as the official intensification of The Hounding. If you have ever watched a nature program about wolf behavior, you know what this current media storm is really all about.

It's not about gaffes or misunderstood comments or even intended malicious comments. On some levels, it's not even about Hillary Clinton.

The primal hounding out of the pack is both fascinating and disturbing to observe, whether it involves wolves, high-school cliques, or the American media dispatching presidential candidates.

Now Hillary Clinton is nothing if not one tough dame. Can she survive The Hounding until the Democratic National Convention? I think so, but given my track record this can mean only one two three things for Hillary: she ends her campaign after Memorial Day; takes a brief vacation and returns nipped, tucked, and wonderfully refreshed; and celebrates her 99th birthday while serving as a Senator from New York.
