Captive to History’s Caprice. The good news is that Dowd keeps the use of dumb nicknames to a minimum. The less-good news is the number of direct and indirect allusions to Hollywood and movies she works into the column. The worst news, as always, is that the NYT still publishes this drivel.

I don't know -- should I have included "golden boys" in the list? It does seem to be an oblique reference to the old William Holden/Barbara Stanwyk movie....
