
First, I couldn't bear to look at him, all squinty and puckered and chinning. So I sought out audio-only versions of his speeches and interviews. Then I couldn't bear to listen to him anymore, twanging on the less catastrophic occasions, laboriously enunciating when more blood and treasure (never from his own kind) are being demanded. Finally, I tried to dispassionately read the transcripts -- but by now even the pixelated words make me furious. I am reduced to heckling the computer screen. And I know I am not alone.
