Here I raise a question about human nature that I cannot answer. Republicans tend to assume that everyone hungers for more investment accounts to handle. This is because Republicans like personal autonomy and authority, and are good at math.
Was Noonan aware of the ironic twist of her column's title? After a brief moment of clarity, during which she panned Bush's inaugural speech only to be verbally pummeled by Republican pundits, she's now back to flacking. My guess: No. It's simply not possible that this is a self-deprecating joke. And Noonan has no sense of irony. -- Grace
