The bike rider from hell descends on Scotland

Well, that didn't take long.

Whenever Bush travels abroad I brace myself, the way my relatives and I brace ourselves whenever Uncle Fester (not his real name) shows up at family occasions. Something's going to get broken. Someone's going to get insulted. Somehow the event will take a nasty turn.

But I wasn't prepared for this because I didn't think Bush took his toys with him when he traveled.
GLENEAGLES, Scotland -- President Bush has some scrapes on his hands and arms after a bike collision with a Scottish police officer at the resort where the G-Eight summit is taking place.

The officer has been taken to a hospital.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan says Bush was going at "a pretty good speed" and took a spill after the crash. He needed bandages from the White House physician. The presidential bike took some damage.

McClellan says the officer is from a nearby town and was on a security detail.

The spokesman says Bush was worried about the officer and talked with him after the crash. He says Bush will likely call the officer later.

Bush attended a dinner hosted by Queen Elizabeth at the Group of Eight economic summit after the crash.

He wore a tuxedo and showed no signs of distress.

Police say the officer has a "very minor" ankle injury.
I'd say the police officer was very, very lucky. Having worked in Manhattan and witnessed several pedestrians get splattered by speeding bike messengers, I can tell you that this is not something to chuckle about. It's pretty much like getting hit by a car.
