Toss David Brooks a doggy treat

Well, David Brooks really earned his Republican lap-dog obedience award this week. In his Sunday New York Times column, "Calling the Democrats Bluff," he salutes Bush for proposing benefits indexing in addition to private accounts and castigates the Democrats for being an opposition party that "doesn't feel any responsibility to come up with positive alternatives."

I don't know. I think proposing not to screw over people is a positive alternative. Maybe Brooks doesn't.

But this line is the real hoot: "When a Republican president embraces progressive indexing, something big is happening."

Yes indeed. Something really big is happening. Let's see if Brooks ever figures it out.

Update: For a much more, ahem, emphatic takedown of Brooks, check out the reactions of Driftglass, here.
