Even though they had plenty of notice that Pope John Paul II was in his last days, the big three television networks have so far opted not to deploy their big guns to Rome to cover his death.
ABC anchorman Peter Jennings, for instance, begged off on making the trek - saying he was "feeling under the weather," according to the New York Post.
An ABC spokeswoman said Jennings, who rushed down to Little Rock last year to cover the opening of Bill Clinton's presidential library, "may be" in Rome in time for live coverage of the pontiff's funeral later this week.
Jennings later revealed that he had just been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.
Just a reminder: not everything is political.
